Rolling Into the Lowcountry 🗺️ 🪾🛻

Issue 99 • May 21, 2025

Hello fellow wanderer!

After a long stretch of (mostly) sunny days in Florida, we hit the road with South Carolina in our sights. RV travel days are a mix of anticipation, planning, and the occasional curveball. This trip gave us a little of everything.

Overnight Stay at the Cracker Barrel

We spent a quiet night at the Cracker Barrel in Brunswick, GA. The parking lot was large enough to accommodate quite a few overnighters but since we were among the first to arrive, we got to choose a spot that would accommodate the opening of the living room slide which was handy since we had arrived around 5 pm.

Jody spent his time working on some bike upgrades, and I enjoyed getting a few laps around the parking lot to close all my activity rings. After a warm night without AC, we enjoyed a delicious breakfast and hit the road for our final destination. But first, a tasty stop to check out some peaches!

Georgia Peach World

Taking time to stop and explore fun roadside attractions can be a challenge but we are trying to do it as often as we can. Traveling along I-95 I kept noticing all the billboards for Georgia Peach World and how they were the “#1 Tourist Attraction for peaches in Georgia”. With that kind of claim, how could we NOT stop?

The place was much smaller than I expected but the staff was super friendly and we walked away with some delicious treats! I could have stayed a lot longer, admiring the wide variety of peachy products and sipping on a delicious peach slush, but Jody was ready to manauver the RV out of the tiny parking lot and get down the road to South Carolina.

Welcome to the Lowcountry: A return to Yemassee

We crossed the state line into South Carolina, and I swear I felt everything slow down, even the traffic! After months of Florida drivers trying to run us down, it was a welcome change of pace. We watched the landscape change as we made our way to the campground.

There’s something about the South Carolina Lowcountry that draws you in and slows your pace. Maybe it’s the Spanish moss dripping from the trees like old lace. Or maybe it is the hush that settles over the marshes at dusk.

We landed in a small town called Yemassee, our basecamp for exploring this next chapter. We've been here before, back in 2020...aka Covid Season 1. It’s still the kind of place that doesn’t rush to impress you. Instead it invites you to get out and meet your neighbors, enjoying the southern hospitality that made the south famous.

This part of the South feels ancient, with history layered like sediment in the soil and in the walls of every ruin, fort, and plantation house. I already know we’ll leave with more questions than answers… and that’s exactly why I’m excited to share it with you.

The Rhythm of Travel Days

RV life isn’t just one big scenic overlook. Travel days come with their own rhythm: the hum of the tires, the search for the best diesel price where the rig will fit, and the truck stop snacks. But there’s also beauty in the changing landscapes, and the small towns that invite you to stop and say "howdy".

These are the days that remind me why we chose this lifestyle. Not because it’s always easy, but because it’s always full of potential for adventure and quirky finds in the truck stop parking lot. Not to mention a new place to explore on the motorcycle!

What’s Next: Southern Stories Ahead

Now that we’ve settled into the Lowcountry, we’re diving into some places that feel like they’ve been waiting for centuries to tell their stories, starting with the hauntingly beautiful Old Sheldon Church ruins. I can’t wait to share that experience with you next week!

What’s your favorite memory from a travel day? Or your funniest road trip fail? Hit reply and share it with me! I always love hearing from fellow wanderers.

Word-of-mouth is the best way for this community to grow, and I genuinely appreciate every share. Thanks for being part of this crazy adventure!

Until next week, take time to wander and find the fleeting expressions of nature!
