Big Skies, Better Brakes & Burros

Welcome back, Reader!

This week we took the trailer back to the dealership to have the ramp door looked at again. More importantly, we needed to motivate the service department to have the brakes bled like the company that installs them suggested. We believed this would fix the 3-4 second delay before they engaged. That may not sound like much, but navigating Phoenix traffic while pulling a 40’ trailer with slow braking ability is a white knuckle experience!

The good news is that once we started mentioning our safety concerns they decided to do the work we asked for to “ease our concerns”. I’m not sure why it had to be so difficult but I appreciated that they did it and it solved the issue.

After that frustrating experience, it was great to be back with our friends. Waking up to vibrant sunrises, warm days, and quality time with friends is why we are here. If I could describe the desert in one word it would have to be peaceful. The vast landscape and big, colorful skies help me take a deep breath and slow down. I’m finding that a slower pace helps me enjoy life so much more!

I realized after sending last week’s newsletter that I forgot to include the link to our latest travel video. If you missed it, you can watch it here:

Home on Wheels

Turns out recording a video walkthrough is more challenging than it sounded in my head. I hoped to gain inspiration and talking points when we invited our friends (some full-time, some weekend warriors) here at the ranch to come take a look. They had a few questions along with some likes/dislikes, but overall agreed it works great for full-time living, which is perfect for us. I'll get it worked out and share that walkthrough soon!

Oatman + Rt. 66

We made a day trip over to Oatman to say hi to the burros and capture some footage for that section of our Route 66 trip. Full disclosure: we are base camped in Arizona and taking trips to the sections of the Mother Road we are most excited to explore.

We love the quirky vibe of Oatman. It has that classic Route 66 energy, mixed with the fun of a historic town where the burros roam the streets. This one was a lot of fun, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

Desert Photography

I took this photo at a quiet moment in the desert when everything was just waking up. The light was starting to shift as the sun peeked over the top of a distant mountain. The sky warmed up with the vibrant burst from the sun, making me stop and take in the beauty of the southwest landscape.

I didn’t overthink the shot, just captured how peaceful it felt in that moment. Big skies, wide open space, and nothing demanding my attention.

Images like this are a reminder of why we’re out here. Pausing to make room for things may not have noticed before.

Even with the bumps in the road (looking at you, trailer brakes), I'm grateful for this season of big skies, burros, and a home that moves with us. Thanks for being part of the journey and letting me share these little snapshots with you.

Hit reply and let me know what you're most curious about: the trailer setup, Route 66, or desert photography. I'd love to shape future stories around what you want to see.

Until next week!
